Zombie Outhouse Development Part 2
Zombie Outhouse Development Part 2: Porting to Zune HD
While the plan for Zombie Outhouse was to do an Xbox360 and iPhone version from the beginning, it made sense to make an intermediate Zune HD version which would ease the transition. It would also allow me to get the game play figured out for the touch screen while still working within the XNA environment.
Once the Xbox 360 version was completed, work was started on the Zune HD version. The first phase was to scale the graphics and fonts to pretty much ½ the size of the Xbox 360 version. The game pad interface was replaced with a mouse interface and the menu system had to be modified for mouse support.
Since Zune HD development is done using the same XNA toolkit, the porting was relatively painless and took about 4 hour for the initial port and then an additional 4 hours for cleanup primarily with the menus and recoding the weapon code (firing, reloading and changing).
Nick Gravelyn’s ZuneLib was used to handle the landscape rotation so my game engine didn’t need to worry about that.
The Zune HD version will probably be released whenever the Zune HD marketplace goes online, but I have no idea when that will be so for now it’s been put to the side.
hey since you’re the developer of this app for the zune hd, will it be officially supported by the zune marketplace or is it a 3rd party app to be deployed through XNA?
Right now its only available for Windows Phone 7, Xbox Live Indie Games for Xbox 360 and iOS for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad. There are no plans to release the Zune HD version.
this is due to what may i ask? this seems like a really good game and i would love to see it on the zune hd. I noticed on previous posts and some others after this one you mentioned about getting this game on the device (Zune HD). Please explain why there are no plans to release the Zune HD version. Also, if the Zune HD version never comes out, will you please be willing to send me a copy? you can contact me at emnestii@hotmail.com
Sorry about the delay in response. I currently don’t want to release the source code or distribute Zombie Outhouse outside of an official marketplace. If Microsoft would allow me, I would publish it on the Zune HD marketplace for free.
